Paulo Ureņa Here's my 2nd attempt to solve the insurance salesman problem. Since the salesman knew that the product of the owner's children's ages was 36 and he also probably knew the house number since he was there, he would have easily solved the problem. However, there are 2 possible answers that yield the same house number - both 9-2-2 and 6-6-1 have the sum of 13. That must be the reason why he asked for additional information. And since there's an 'eldest' whom the owner claims to play the violin, the answer would be 9-2-2.
Paulo Ureņa I think the answer to the insurance salesman problem would be 2-3-6. There were only three possible answers (3-3-4, 2-3-6, and 2-2-9). I assumed the answers would have to be natural numbers since they add up to be the house number. The other choices would have to mean that the house owner had twins, but he thought that knowing the eldest plays the violin suffices as an information to answer the question, then my guess must be correct.
